What is a solar water heating system?
Basically, it’s a system that uses radiated energy from the sun to heat the water in your hot water cylinder. Below is a very simplified diagram of how this works:
Water circulates from your geyser, up through a solar collector, where it is heated up, and back to your geyser. Over time the water in your geyser increases to the desired temperature.
The components in the diagram are:
- A Controller monitors the temperature and operates the pump
- Your Hot Water Cylinder serves as a storage tank for the water
- The Pump circulates the water up to the collector
- The Solar Collector (in this case evacuated tubes) where the sun’s energy is transferred to the water
